Key Achievements of the Filipino Community
Pioneering Cultural Connection
The Filipino Community has been instrumental in bridging Juneau’s Filipino community and the local community. From lively cultural performances to hosting community events, our efforts have significantly increased cultural awareness and cross-cultural connection in Juneau.
Support for New Immigrants
The Filipino Community has long served as a welcoming hub for newly immigrated Filipino families. By providing a supportive environment and resources, we help new members connect with the Filipino community and ease their transition to Juneau.
Community Feeding Programs
Ensuring that community and FilCom members are always fed has been a longstanding effort of the Filipino Community. We not only address food insecurity but also strengthen communal bonds through shared meals and gatherings
Legislative Advocacy
The Filipino Community has played a key role in advocating for and passing legislation that benefits the Filipino population in Juneau and Alaska at large. Our efforts have, for example, led to the recognition of significant Filipino figures and the dedication of spaces in their honor.
Founding by Alaska Native Women
Our community was largely started by Alaska Native women with Mestizo children, a significant chapter in the Filipino Community’s history. Their work and dedication laid the foundation for and continued to support a thriving community space.
Cultural and Historical Recognition
Through our events and advocacy, we have dedicated spaces to Filipino heroes and brought Filipino culture to the forefront of the Juneau community. This recognition honors our history and the contributions of Filipino individuals to our community and the broader society.
